Brown lines appear from the right, “stabbing” at any onscreen text and the mouse cursor, like the ghost of Winamp has taken possesion of the screen. It happens randomly, after the monitor has been on for a while (heat?), and stops as suddenly as it started. Sadly there seems to be no way to exorcise this common problem, as it’s probably some design fault in the circuitry. Screen resolution, refresh rate and interference from other devices seem irrelevant to the problem. Temporal repelling of the evil equalizer can be achieved slaping or pressing the top of the monitor, or for the peacefully minded, pumping up the brightness (turning MagicBright to video and back does the trick), thought it “feels” like the ghost develops immunity against these treatments with time. Best advice is to stay away from the SyncMaster 793MB altogether, since the problem will only get worse, eventually making it useless (even my old 550v’s work better; granted, they may take a while to start working, the colors may be messed up and way too dark… but at least you can read on them).
